It is commonly assumed that anybody can produce abstract art. Apes, children or whoever move paint and the results are celebrated. Likewise, people who cannot read music, will write or play and again the results are recognized. I would suggest that abstract art, much like jazz for example, is not produced by random magic, but rather by competent practitioners who succeed through preparation.
My work has been figurative as I attempt to understand the medium and its mystery; its structure. This groundwork allows that at least the focus is defined. There is much to yet learn about color and line; subjects to communicate and describe. |
